If you encountered somebody in a suicide crisis, would you know what to do? "Ask a Question, Save a Life," the latest event in Care Ministry's new educational series, will provide free QPR training for suicide prevention on Thursday, April 26th at 6:30pm. Just as people trained in CPR help save many lives each year, people trained in QPR can recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and question, persuade, and refer someone in crisis for help. "Ask a Question, Save a Life" will be led by a certified QPR trainer from Prevent Suicide Greater Milwaukee. QPR Training is recommended for parents, friends, teachers, ministers, medical and mental health professionals – anyone who wants to know more about keeping the ones they care about from dying by suicide. This training may be difficult for someone who has recently lost a loved one to suicide.

I am often struck by the fact that we live our lives from one moment to the next. For the sake of our story today, I would define a moment as “a significant event in your life that has a permanent impact on your future.” A game changer! Some special examples that come to mind in my life would be: my wedding day, the birth of my two daughters, and the 9-11 tragedy. Moments in Time, they either add or subtract. They write our story – the story of our life. So what’s my point? What’s the take away message I hope to impart and have you focus on today? Consider this very day that you are about to experience as a simple example. Yes, this is the day the Lord has made, you can choose to rejoice and show gladness in everything you do – or, you can let today’s events diminish your faith. Pause and be patient when challenges arise. Trust God one day at a time, hour by hour. Consider the time it takes God to grow a tree. That tree started as a small seed, the seed was covered in dirt and darkness, but through God’s power of creation, it now provides shelter for the animals of His kingdom and shade from the hot sun.
HCL Sunday School children contribute to an offering each month that goes toward supporting various ministry and community efforts. In March, the children's offering went to Hope Street Ministry in the form of 20 Easter baskets that were assembled and delivered to the kids at Hope Street for Easter.
It's not easy to think about our mortality, especially when we are young. Many of us are guilty of putting any sort of estate planning off to a future time. But the truth is, we don't know when the Lord will call us Home and, while this may be difficult to think about, it's probably harder to imagine what would happen if the unthinkable occurred and you didn't have a plan. That's why Hales Corners Lutheran and the HCL Foundation have partnered with Gift Planning Services to help HCL families with future planning. As a service to the People of God, meetings with Gift Planning Services are completely FREE and can help families like yours, whether it's reviewing an existing plan to offer helpful insights or assisting those who do not yet have a plan to develop a comprehensive roadmap for getting this done.

These are countless ways that droves of very special people lend their time, talents and voices to supporting the ministries of Hales Corners Lutheran Church & School and we simply could not do what we do without our volunteers. For National Volunteer Week, we will be honoring the volunteers of HCL in very special worship services on April 21st and 22nd, so if you have served or are serving in any of the ministries of HCL, please come and be with us as we thank and celebrate you for your efforts and the impact you've had - on this ministry, our community and, ultimately, on the world - for Christ.
