"My Thought for Your Day" by Paul Minzlaff

The blue skies of the afternoon were quickly snuffed out by a thick blanket of fog that seemed to come out of nowhere. Night fall would soon arrive and it was quickly becoming evident I was spending the night in freezing temperatures and darkness in the mountains of Colorado. Certainly this was not how I had planned to spend my evening.
Life unfortunately is not too dissimilar to the true story above (obviously I got home safely a day later). We find life providing us one blessing after another – work, family and relationships have never been better. Then, suddenly and usually without warning, the unexpected and often undeserving circumstance presents itself causing us upset and heartache. Sound at all familiar?
Life today can be beautiful one moment and then terrifying the next – sometimes in the same hour. When we are in a moment of challenge and despair, we need to remind ourselves that God does not make mistakes! Our earthly reaction to God’s message is often filled with resistance and bartering. I don’t believe God wants a faith which is predicated on compromise. Regardless of circumstance, you have been given God’s word that He will never leave or forsake you.
Life happens and there is no way to avoid the mess. Rather than asking the question, ‘Why me?’ I encourage you to consider the response, ‘Why not me?’ One thing is for certain, life will continue to come at us with the unexpected. But through faith, family and friends, you can find confidence and wisdom. Scripture tells us, “Be strong and courageous, knowing God will be with you wherever you go.”
As I reflect on my experience of that evening in Colorado, I recognize that we all face darkness in our life – most of it unplanned. And yet, it is during the darkness that we often find ourselves closest to our Savior, for it is the light of Christ that provides answers to escape our darkness. Seek His light always, while giving thanks for yesterday, being grateful for today, and seeking to make a difference in the lives of others forever.
