There are people of God who desire to worship and praise the name of Jesus, but they do not have the mobility or are limited by weather or transportation. We can bring the Word of the Lord to them. St. Paul quoting the Old Testament shares: "The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,' that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming...'Jesus is Lord...'" (Romans 10:8-9).
We have the privilege to share the word of life and hope in the name of the victorious Lord Jesus to many in Health Care Centers or those residing in Senior Living Apartments. Pastors have initiated this outreach ministry, however more HCLC lay people could be blessed through this ministry if they would be willing to share their special gift. Two examples which show how HCLC lay persons are blessed to be a blessing to others are presented. 1) The monthly prayer service at SunRise Care Center (3540 S. 43rd St., Greenfield) grew out of a 40 Days small group service project. Currently 2 members of HCLC meet with the Sunrise residents on the 4th Saturday of each month from 10:45-11:30 a.m. We lead a prayer service consisting of hymns, Scripture readings, a message, prayer requests and the Lord's Prayer. Recently we are blessed to offer the Lord's Supper to the group. Attendance ranges from 15-20 residents who are responsive and appreciate this opportunity for Christian prayer and worship. This is a wonderful way to reach out to God's oldest children with the love of Christ! Volunteers who have a heart for the elderly and those blessed with musical ability would be appreciated. Contact Joann Richter Koopmeiners at 414-529-0338 for more information. 2) Lay persons from HCLC provide weekly devotions at Hales Corners Care Center on Sundays. The format is flexible: read and/or talk about Bible stories, provide vocal or instrumental music, share short skits or drama, and lead prayers. Video and audio tapes and CD's may be used. Group participation by the elder residents might be limited. They listen. They see. They need to be uplifted by the message in whatever form it is provided. Devotion time is about 30-45 minutes. A Sunday devotional is conducted about 10:45 a.m. For many, this is their "church." Opportunities to be involved either at this location or other health care centers could be arranged by contacting Paul Froehling 414-425-8244 or Pastor Johnson 414-529-6700. |
