|
A group for women of all ages and quilting abilities. It offers a weekly dose of caring, sharing and fellowship. Works not only as a support group and great facility to learn the art of quilting, but also makes quilts to donate. Donated quilts go to community organizations such as A Place of Refuge, the Linus Quilt Project, the Carter Child Development Center and Lutheran relief services. Warm Hugs Quilt Group meets every Monday, 9:30 a.m. in the Craft Room at Steeple View. Call Sue Lawler, 414-427-5101 with questions. Click here to visit the Small Group section.
Several members of the Monday Morning Warm Hugs Quilt Group presents Pastor Mike with “Baseball, Hot Dogs, Apple Pie and….Corvette!” quilt for his 60th birthday. The Warm Hugs Quilt Group began at Hales Corners Lutheran Church in 1998 with 5 women, a few pieces of material and lots of ideas for making quilts. Since then, the group has grown to 10 women who meet at Steepleview each Monday morning and, also, an evening group of 5 women who meet once a month on the 2nd Tuesday. If you enjoy sewing, using some basic math, choosing colors and having fun, please plan to join us. We are open to new people joining us in this mission. "Whatever you do, work at it all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord you are serving." Colossians 3:23-24 Our quilts are all one of a kind pieces. We ONLY use cotton materials most of which has been donated to us. The majority of the quilts are machine sewed and then hand tied. ALL of our quilts are locally donated. Angel Tree receives approximately 40 quilts each December. Yearly, we donate to Hales Corners Lutheran School Auctions, Hales Corners Lutheran Foundation Golf Outing, Lutheran HS Association Auction, Martin Luther Golf Outing, Place of Refuge, Hope House, and Emmaus Lutheran Church and other Lutheran churches with needs in the Milwaukee area. Also, we donate to other groups as the requests are made to us. Basically our only purchased items are rolls of batting and various threads. In the past we sold a few quilts at the Ministry Fair to obtain this money. Last year, we became a beneficiary of Thrivent Financial through one of their grants. (We do thank them for this generous help!!) |
