Matthew Mentors (a new, financial education ministry) Print E-mail

A financial care ministry has been formed because we believe that stewardship of financial resources lies at the heart of Christian discipleship.  Jesus talks a lot about money and possessions, and much of life revolves around this, so we as God's people must take the necessary time to gain the wisdom and management skills to plan, give, save, and spend it wisely.   We do want to hear God say "Well done, good and faithful servant...!" Matt. 25:21.

“Becoming Money Wise…” building financial strength from wisdom, humility, and contentment! Our Matthew Mentor’s (church-commissioned servants, gifted with financial expertise)  have assisted over 70 households thus far, with gained financial wisdom, and offering new found hope - for those in need.  The course “Becoming Money-Wise, a Scripturally-Based Practical Study on Money” is offered again for 6 weeks, in room 173 at the Janesville Campus, on Wednesdays, starting on the June 13th., for 6 weeks, from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. in room 173 at the Janesville Campus, offering financial guidance and hope.  The $5.00 course fee includes your book.  Class space is limited.  Sign up at the Info. counter, or contact Dale Wiza, at w414-529-6700, or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Matthew Mentors will also serve with personal, confidential sessions, upon request.

Our Mentors are a team of HCLC-commissioned servant volunteers, trained in financial planning, who will lead us in these workshops.  The workshop Mentors are: Laurie Alexsandrowicz, Jack Kaczkowski (CFP), Bill Minor, Dutch Vandervort, and John Meyer.  Additional Matthew Mentors are Doug Mertz and Dale Wiza.  Training for this course was by Phil Meinzen, of Concordia’s - Center for Financial Leadership, Inc.  We will follow a workbook, written by Ron Chewning, “Becoming Money Wise, a Scripturally-Based Practical Study on Money”.  This workbook is easy to follow, and includes Christ-centered advice on life’s financial matters.  Please register with Dale Wiza at 414-529-6700, or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

How does a Matthew Mentor foster better stewardship?
Matthew Mentors will show their fellow church members that good stewardship stems from a relationship God has created with us, not merely unrelated financial transactions. The stewardship communication within the church will become multi-dimensional to impact the lives of individuals and help provide for the ministry.
This simple formula demonstrates how those dimensions interact is 100 = (10+10+80) ©. 100 percent begins with God's ownership of all- a truth often overlooked. 10 percent is given as a first fruit tithe (offerings go beyond the tithe), 10 percent is invested and placed by Lutheran $avers in the church's extension fund, or some other savings or investment plan that honors God and 80 percent is used for daily bread. Matthew Mentor training material will equip mentors to see Christ as "the treasure" and encourage others to align their finances, time and talent to follow God's will.

Who provides the training?
The Concordia Center for Financial Leadership, Inc. (CFL) provides the curriculum and the "training of the trainer" programs.  CFL recruits and endorses highly qualified financial professionals and stewardship leaders as trainers and mentors. Many are Certified Financial Planners or accredited, professional counselors. All are dedicated Christians who teach from a truth and perspective of God's Word and its stewardship principles. CFL collaborates with church partners such as LCEF, LCMS Stewardship Ministry, The LCMS Foundation and Concordia Plan Services to support pastors/church workers and lay leaders to develop a fuller experience of the stewardship Life and promise in financial leadership.  Learn more at www.cfl.org
