Introduction

2008 was Hales Corners Lutherans' first year hosting Upward Basketball and we had great success with 217 boys and girls, 1st - 6th Grade. In 2009 we will be offering Basketball and Upward's Cheerleading program.

Upward Basketball requires pre-season evaluations allowing us to create equal teams of players. Teams will consist of no more than 10 players per team. Every player gets equal playing time throughout the year and players will be matched up against someone with like talent. Practices are 1 hour long during the week and 1 hour games on Saturdays. The season consists of 10 weeks of practices and 8 games. Our goal is to create a feeling that every child believes in themselves and that they are winners. After every game each player's positive results will be lifted up and they will be awarded with a colored star that they will iron on to their practice T-shirt.

Every Upward player receives a reversible jersey, shorts and T-shirt along with a several other items in their stater kit. Upward Cheerleaders receive a cheer top, cheer skort, megaphone, pom-poms, and several other items in their starter kits.

The basketball program is designed for children of all levels. If your child has never played baketball before or they are good enough to play on a select team we will find a spot for them. Come check out these exciting new programs.

Evaluations will be November 1st OR November 8th at the Janesville Campus (Community Center) from 3:00 - 6:30. Your child must be at one of these to play basketball or cheer. It is a first come, first served. Depending upon the amount of people it should only take about 30 minutes for the evaluations, unless there are longer lines. 

Volunteers

Upward Basketball and Cheerleading provides many oppportunities to volunteer and be apart of an exciting new Outreach Ministry for boys and girls 1st - 6th Grade. We are always looking for commissioners to lead divisions, coach's, assistant coach's, ref's, concession workers, set-up and clean-up people, and prayer partners. Also we need people to take pictures and videos throughout the season; these will be used to create a power point and video to play during our exciting season ending Awards Ceremony, highlighting our season. If you have any interest in being apart of this program please call Wade Avinger - League Director or email him at 414-788-9724 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Last year 25% of our volunteers did not have a child in the program and we had several high school students that volunteered as well. Come give this a try and an find out why everyone had such an exciting time being apart of Upward Basketball and Cheerleading.

Player Evaluations: ALL players must attend one of the evaluations - November 1st or November 8th, 3:00 - 6:30 - first come, first served. Evaluations should take about 30 - 45 minutes

During Evaluations players will be tested and scored on several drills to help us create equal teams. Everyone MUST attend. Players will also be fitted for their uniform. 

Cheerleader Orientations: ALL cheerleaders must attend one of the orientations - November 1st or Novmeber 8th, 3:00 - 6:30 - first come, first served. Evaluations should take about 30 -45 minutes.

During Orientations cheerleaders will be fitted for their uniform. Every girl MUST attend one of the Orientations.  

Practices Start - Week of January 5th - All Divisions will practice once a week - throughout the season

1st Game - Saturday January 17th  (3rd - 4th Grade Boys, 4th - 6th Grade Girls, 5th - 6th Grade Boys) Games will be played at the Community Center - Janesville Campus

1st Game - Saturday January 24th  (1st and 2nd Grade Boys, 1st - 3rd Grade Girls) Games will be played at the Grange Campus

3rd - 4th Grade Boys, 4th - 6th Grade Girls, 5th - 6th Grade Boys - BYE Week of January 31st due to the Wildcat Tournament at the Community Center.

Martin Luther Basketball Night - Come out and see a High School basketball game for FREE. Flyers will be coming out in December. 

Bucks Night - Saturday February 28th against the Wizards - More Info to come (Give away night) 

Picture Day - March 7th - All games played at the Community Center (Janesville Campus)  

Awards Ceremony - Saturday March 28th - Time TBD
