Sonshine Ministry helps Ebenezer food pantry Print E-mail

The Sonshine Ministry has joined in a cooperative effort to support the Ebenezer Lutheran Church food pantry.  Ebenezer has existed for about thirty years and monthly serves about 230 families living on the south side of Milwaukee.

They are currently open the last three Wednesdays of every month, providing emergency food, health assistance from the parish nurse and information on other subsidies available to the clients they serve.

With the declining economy, the poverty level of this area (located around 35th and Scott) has grown dramatically and there is a need for additional support. Hales Corners Lutheran church has supported Ebenezer for many years with food donations but has become aware of an opportunity to support their efforts in a much more significant way. Ebenezer would like to open one more day each week allowing them to reach more people and to access more food from Hunger Task Force. We can help by providing the additional staffing required to be open that extra day.

Individuals desiring to get a “hands on” experience helping out families and individuals in need of a kind hand are encouraged to participate in the regular operation of Ebenezer’s food pantry. Assistance is needed on Wednesdays to hand out food, register clients and to provide general support. Support is also needed for the preparation of bags, sorting of food and delivery of food. If the Lord leads to you find out more about helping Ebenezer’s food pantry, please call Sarah at 529-6700 ext. 166.

Sonshine Ministry: “Reaching people through the dignified provision of basic staples during times of crisis; demonstrating God’s love and providing an example of His hope.”
