Small Group Roles & Job Descriptions Print E-mail

One thing that we have found is that within each group, certain people take on different roles.  There are two main sets of roles within a group.  The first is personality type roles.  The second are roles that perform tasks required for the group to fulfill its purpose.  We are talking here about the latter.

As a group leader, it is not your job to take on all of the tasks, or do everything within your group.  If you do, you will start to become overwhelmed, and you will also hold people back from using their gifts and abilities.  There are many roles that need to be filled in order to the group to be successful.  One person may host the meeting at their home, another may lead the teaching and discussion of the meeting, still another may bring the snack, and someone else might be charged with the responsibility of looking for mission opportunities.  It is your job to ensure that all of the roles your group defines as important are filled, but it is not your job to do them all yourself.

Below we have attached several proposed job descriptions to show you the different aspects involved in a healthy functioning group, and to remind you that you should not do all of these things by yourself.  We encourage you to take on one of these roles, and then to ask others within your group to take on the other roles.
