What a summer we’ve had at Hales Corners Lutheran! As we dive into another school year, let’s reflect on some of the amazing events and blessings from the last few months.
Vacation Bible School and Special Needs VBS
Summer started off with a ROAR! Hundreds of kids and volunteers gathered for a week full of fun and learned that when life is wild – GOD IS GOOD! Everyone involved kicked off their summer with five days of large group lessons, singing, dancing, crafts, snacks, and Bible stories. Check out the VBS photo slideshow here!
Summer Sermon Series and 90th Anniversary Celebration
Our summer sermon series, A Great Cloud of Witnesses kicked off at the end of June. During worship each week we dove deeper into God’s Word as we studied those who have gone before us and whose incredible stories and trust in God have helped shape our faith.
During this time we also began our celebration of the 90th anniversary of Hales Corners Lutheran! Over the next eight weeks, Pastor Keith talked to some incredible people who have had a huge impact on the history of Hales Corners Lutheran Church and School. If you missed any of these interviews, you can watch them here.
Patriotic Festival Services
We celebrated this great country and those who have served it past and present during our Patriotic Festival Services. The Patriotic Choir sang for all services as we honored our active military and veterans.
Chapel North Mission Sunday - Ronald McDonald House
On the 5th Sunday in June, a group of volunteers headed over to Ronald McDonald House after worship to prepare lunches for the residents. The meals are given to families who spend many hours with their children in the hospital. Thank you to everyone who volunteered, as well as those who brought donations to church. LCMS National Youth Gathering
A group of our high school students and chaperones headed to Minneapolis for the LCMS Youth Gathering. They had an amazing time growing closer to God, to each other, and worshiping with thousands of their peers from across the country. They even got to go up on stage during one of the large group gatherings! What a truly amazing experience for these kids as they came together to praise our REAL PRESENT GOD!
Slovakia and Panama Mission Trips and Local Mission Update
This summer we had teams from Hales Corners Lutheran travel to both Martin, Slovakia and Sora, Panama.
In Slovakia they worked with junior high students at the Center for Christian Education, teaching them English using Bible stories and activities/crafts. They were also able to join in the end of school year celebrations!
In Panama, our group worked with Pastor Alejandro and lead Vacation Bible School for local children. We are so thankful for this opportunity to spread God’s Word around the world, and for the safe return of our teams!
Locally, summer brought a lot of opportunity to spread the love of God in our surrounding community. Breakfast continues to be served at Ebenezer on Saturdays with teams serving over 200 meals each weekend.
Our HCL teams joined Hope Street in their Hike for Hope as they raised awareness for their mission, and enjoyed a morning of fellowship in God’s creation.
We partnered with Thrivent and Habitat for Humanity to help build a house in Milwaukee’s Midtown Neighborhood, and had the opportunity to see all of the amazing things that God is doing in in Midtown.
Swimming, camp Olympics, singing, horseback riding, eating, laughing, and growing closer to our REAL PRESENT GOD – this is what Timber Trails was all about! Our campers spent three days experiencing nature, forming lasting friendships, worshiping, learning, and playing to wrap up their incredible summers. We had a wonderful time, and ended Timber Trails with a fun family cookout!
Backpack Blessings and Back-to-School Celebration
And that brings us to our annual backpack blessing, teacher blessing, and back-to-school open house and celebration. At every service the weekend of August 24/25, we prayed over our teachers, students, and school support staff, thanking God for them and praying for blessings on the new school year. We opened classrooms and students and parents were able to talk to teachers and prepare for the first day of school. In the soccer field and north parking lot we celebrated God’s blessings and the beginning of another year with good food, a dunk tank, bouncy house, and a wonderful time of fellowship!
WHAT A SUMMER! As we embark on another school year, we pray that you and your family were able to experience God’s presence in everything you did these last few months. We hope you made wonderful memories, and are as excited as we are for all of the incredible blessings and adventures that are in front of us as a church and school. We are excited to see what God has planned for this year, and we know that it’s IMMEASURABLY MORE than anything we could ever imagine!
