Buildings & Grounds Supervisor

JOB SUMMARY 

This Buildings and Grounds Supervisor is accountable for the maintenance and cleanliness of a church and school facility and its grounds. Some work will require off and extended hours, such as evenings, weekends, and holidays. All work for this 40+ position is required to be on-site. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer. 

This is a hands-on role primarily performing required work and managing a small team and sometimes vendors to successful task completion. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills and a collaborative, coaching, team-building work style are essential.

This person would lead by example and consistently model Christian values and behavior.  This work is to be done as a ministry, aligning with church and school priorities.

This position is 40+ hours per week, salary exempt. Benefits include: health/dental/vision insurance, 403B Retirement Plan available, Pension (vested after 5 years) and paid time off.

Background check is required.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

·       Provide direction and strategy for Buildings and Grounds in alignment and collaboration with other departments and the overall HCL vision.

·       Ability to establish and follow process, procedure and protocol established by leadership.

·       Ensures clean, maintained and safe conditions of facility and grounds

·       Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance of electrical, mechanical equipment, other systems and machinery

·       Ability to prioritize work and effective align staff with agreed upon priorities with flexibility if they change

·       Work collaboratively with other teams to resolve issues and move the ministry forward

·       Participates in inspections, licensing, contracts, leasing as required

·       Obtains and reviews price quotes for the procurement of parts, services, and labor

·       Responds to off-hours critical situations such as fire alarms, weather, power outages and security concerns

·       Maintain balance of daily work and special projects

·       Assist in event setup/takedown, cleaning

·       General computer skills (Microsoft Office, internet, work item ticketing system)

·       Other duties as assigned

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

·       Manage a team of employees, including hiring, workforce planning and scheduling

·       Establish and maintain an operating budget

·       Coordinate, oversee and/or manage repair and maintenance work assignments performed by staff and contractors performing maintenance, grounds and janitorial work

·       Provide direction and oversight to work completion

·       Establish/execute preventative maintenance plans that are within budget

·       Develops and maintains positive relationships with vendors, staff and leadership.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS 

·       Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization.

·       Ability to provide efficient, timely, reliable and courteous service to customers.

·       Ability to effectively write and present information, including but not limited to status reports, processes and plans for complex projects

·       Collaborative work style with conflict management skills

 

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE 
Associates degree or Bachelors degree preferred

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with a minimum of five years of related experience and/or training

Prior supervisory experience required

CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES 
Driver's license required


Buildings & Grounds Team Member -  Full Time

JOB SUMMARY 

This on-site Buildings and Grounds Team Member is key in the maintenance and cleanliness of a church and school facility and its grounds. Some work will require off and extended hours, such as evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position reports to the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor. 

This position is 40 hours per week, hourly non-exempt. Benefits include: health/dental/vision insurance, 403B Retirement Plan available, Pension (vested after 5 years) and paid time off.

This person would lead by example and consistently model Christian values and behavior.  Work is to be done as a ministry, aligning with church and school priorities.

Background check required.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

·       Cleaning duties as assigned that may include dusting, mopping, carpet cleaning, window cleaning, trash removal

·       Use of cleaning equipment: floor scrubbers, floor buffers, vacuums, carpet cleaners

·       On-demand clean-up as required

·       Light maintenance/repair duties, snow removal and salting, grounds care, as needed

·       Ability to work well with others as part of a team

·       Ability to take instruction and complete tasks efficiently and independently

·       Ability to prioritize work with agreed upon priorities with flexibility if they change

·       Assist in event setup/takedown. Lifting and carrying of tables, chairs and other set-up items, as required

·       Ability to recognize areas in need of cleaning, upkeep or maintenance

·       Other duties as assigned

·       Appropriate communication skills to interact with all levels of people within and outside the organization

·       No profanity or inappropriate language or content

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE 
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Some experience helpful, but willing to train

JOB SUMMARY

This position is 29 hours per week, hourly non-exempt. Benefits include: 403B Retirement Plan available, Pension (vested after 5 years) and paid time off.
