Hales corners lutheran church

columbarium and memorial garden

The cost of cremation and not leaving the decision on what to do with mom and dad were big factors in deciding to buy a niche at HCLC. What really made the decision for us was we wanted to be where we have lived our spiritual lives for the last 30 years. Our children grew up here and so did we - what better place to be laid to rest. And to top it all off, it will be easy for God to find us on Judgement Day, right were we’ve always been.

What is the Columbarium?

The Columbarium and Memorial Garden is a uniquely designed final earthly resting place within the church grounds. Surrounded by the beauty of God’s creation, it provides a peaceful place for HCL families to reflect, meditate, pray and worship.

WHY PURCHASE A NICHE?

  • Cremation is theologically sound and environmentally friendly.

  • Your final resting place will be at your church home, where friends and family will be able to visit, reflect, meditate, worship, relax, and be renewed.

  • You can plan a beautiful memorial service in the church sanctuary immediately followed by inurnment. Many options are available.

BENEFITS

  • Purchasing a niche in advance is a wise investment offering protection from rising costs.

  • Preplanning a final resting place is a gift of love to your family. It is one less decision to be made while dealing with the loss of a loved one.

  • You will have peace of mind knowing this decision has been made.

Peace of mind, stress reduction, cost effectiveness, and being where we have lived our spiritual lives are important benefits in our decision.

Columbarium Updates

In 2021, the vision of a Columbarium and Memorial Garden at HCLC became a reality. The HCLC Columbarium and Memorial Garden provides a structure which contains openings, called niches, which house cremated remains of members of the HCLC family.  It is a visible sign that the church cares for its members from birth to death and eternal life.

The initial phase of the HCLC Columbarium and Memorial Garden provides for 162 niches. An additional 324 niches were added in 2023. The Columbarium and Memorial Garden is owned by HCLC, administered by the HCL Foundation, and is managed by the Columbarium and Memorial Garden Committee.

For questions, or to purchase a niche, please contact the Church Office at 414-529-6700. In addition to the below links, Columbarium Policies and Procedures and application forms can also be found at the Information Counter in the church atrium.

When I preplanned my husband’s and my funerals, the funeral director said that pre-planning was the best gift we could give our children. I agree 100%. Losing a loved one is stressful enough. Having funeral and columbarium decisions made in advance helps reduce that stress. And we can’t ignore the financial impact of cremation versus burial.
